Dr. Marilu Gorno Tempini

Maria Luisa Gorno-Tempini, MD, PhD

Director of Neurology; Co-Director, UCSF Dyslexia Center

Dr. Maria Luisa Gorno-Tempini is a behavioral neurologist and internationally recognized leader in cognitive neurology. She serves as Co-Director of the UCSF Dyslexia Center and the UCSF | UC Berkeley Schwab Center for Dyslexia and Cognitive Diversity.

Her work focuses on understanding language across the lifespan—from neurodevelopmental differences such as dyslexia to neurodegenerative conditions—using advanced neuropsychological and neuroimaging approaches. She directs the Language & Neurobiology Laboratory at the UCSF Memory and Aging Center.

Dr. Gorno-Tempini co-founded the UCSF Dyslexia Center in 2014, helping to advance research, clinical care, and public understanding of dyslexia and cognitive diversity.

Dr. Miller is Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry with a specialty in behavioral neurology. He is the Director of the UCSF Fein Memory and Aging Center.

His clinical and research expertise focus on the anatomical and molecular basis of neurological diseases and neurodevelopmental differences, including aging, neurodegenerative disorders, and the neurobiological basis of behavior and creativity.

In 2014, he co-founded the UCSF Dyslexia Center with Dr. Gorno-Tempini.
